Telerik Academy Alumni Martin Katsarov

As a university student majoring in Information Technologies, Martin Katsarov decided to augment his theoretical knowledge with real-world practical skills. The end goal – turning into a full-fledged software engineer and landing his first job quickly with a leading company that truly excites him.  Today, he works as a software developer in GVC Services Bulgaria.

Why did you take part in Telerik Academy Alpha?
Before joining Telerik Academy Alpha, I had no professional programming experience but I had a strong drive to learn and bring my skills to the next level.

Telerik Academy helped me master some of the most up-to-date and widely used technologies worldwide, develop better work ethics and improve my soft skills while working on close to real-work tasks and projects. Self-organization, agility, determination, strong soft skills and in-depth .NET knowledge – these are the key skills I gained and my recipe for success that I use to date.

What happened after you graduated?
I found the perfect place where I can further grow my skills as a developer. Actually, I had the opportunity to meet with GVC Services while still studying, as they’re a Telerik Academy partner. My entire training and the time spent at the Academy completely paid off. In just six months of hard work, sweat and tears, I was fully ready for a professional career start.

What are your superpowers today?
I am a full-stack .NET developer in a sports betting company. My day-to-day responsibilities span across developing and maintaining features. What excites me the most is that every day I can learn something new thanks to my supporting team and the complexity of our product. I highly also appreciate the opportunity to communicate with people from other countries, which helps me develop my soft skills.

Why did you choose GVC Services as your employer?
The fact that they follow the best programming practices and methodologies combined with my passion for sports made GVC Services stand out among other employees.

What advice would you give to our new Telerik Academy students?
Fellow future students, be strong-willed, hold your head up high and never give up, never back down!
